"Most Americans and a majority of people in Britain, France and South Korea say torturing terrorism suspects is justified at least in rare instances, according to AP-Ipsos polling."
"in rare instances" is the key phrase here. I am against torture as a rule - it diminishes the West's moral authority.
HOWEVER Islamofacists, because of the cowardly game they are playing - targeting of innocents for slaughter - are asking for it. I suppose that's why public opinion seems to endorse it.
Being civilized, I would expect Western intelligence services to implement more creative and sophisticated methods of extracting information from sources than resorting to the kind of sadistic methods sanctioned by the likes of Saddam Hussein. It seems counterproductive otherwise.
