Negative Swiftboat Ad Campaign Update
The Iowa Electronic Market seems to be reacting to the negative campaign showing a dip for Bush and a rise for Kerry. This makes sense if you think about it. Kerry lost some ground when the Michael Moore movie was released because, generally speaking, most Americans are very suspicious of these kinds of attacks.
The Boston Globe is reporting that one of Kerry's detractors, Lieutenant Commander George Elliott, is retracting his statement and regrets having participated in the smear. Looks like everybody got all worked up and said some things maybe they wish they hadn't. [*Lookie here]
Hugh Hewitt rightly observes, "This story deserves as much coverage as Bush'a air guard service received. The ad deserves as much coverage as the independent expenditure committee ads from the left receive. The book should get as much attention as the flood of books from the left have received...Will that coverage happen? Probably not.."
Powerline's Hindrocket analyzes the letter crafted by Kerry's lawyers regarding the libel threat and exposes some of it's more specious moments.
Roger L. Simon has reviewed a sample chapter of Unfit For Command and concludes:"I don't like the idea of having a man who sounds like a pathetic barroom blowhard (and that's what he sounds like to me) becoming President of the United States in a time of war. People like this start to believe their own lies. Maybe the greater good of Kerry's "policies" outweigh this for some people. They'll have to explain that to me. But they'll also have to explain all the rest of this book... in detail."
